Our popular 20 x 20 artist talks return on 3rd October featuring ASP artist Naty Lopez-Holguin, together with Jackson Batchelor and Roy Hanney. These are always engaging, informative evenings, learning about the artist’s practices. The doors open at 6.30pm, to grab a drink and network, before the talks start at 7pm.
Naty Lopez-Holguin
Is a Spanish born artist based in Portsmouth, who is interested in the everyday and the discarded, things which might be considered rubbish by others.
She uses a wide range of media, where materials are carefully selected for their physical properties and inherent attributes. By identifying unexpected connections, the works reflect on the complex relationships between social, symbolic and material …
Using materials to convey points of human experience interests her; presenting the low value, everyday in a transformed state, to simultaneously instigate associations and interpretations.
Naty is an Art Space Portsmouth member and studio holder.

Jackson Batchelor
Starting as a stage actor with a relevant degree but a dislike for the elitism he saw in drama schools Jackson found a niche collaborating with the completely independent collective Trash Arts. In transitioning from stage to screen as an actor he also learned camera, direction and production skills hands on. In this fast paced environment his contribution to the collectives film output increased so his journey as a creative film-maker evolved, from crewing and editing music and promotional videos to directing shorts and feature films.
Contributing positively to community, providing platforms for expression and supporting outsider artists are core values for Trash Arts, with Jackson being key player in the collective forming their most successful longstanding, weekly event ‘Open Ya Mouth’ as a CIC with larger annual fairs in Victoria park now funded by the Arts Council.
This strong drive for community, combined with a passion for history has led Jackson and collaborator Simon Berry to bring broader recognition and celebration to the captivating story of the Battle of Southsea. Through a film documentary and events that honour the historic struggle to break down barriers and reclaim public rights. With support from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Portsmouth City Council The Battle of Southsea 150th Anniversary Project has brought the Battle of Southsea’s story to life.
