We are looking for a dynamic and organised person with an eye for detail and a passion for the arts and community to join our team as the Office Manager / Administrator. Working with our Board on a part-time, flexible and freelance basis, managing the day to day running of Art Space.

Art Space Portsmouth is a registered charity that provides affordable studio space with a focus on artist that are in financial need. For over 40 years Art Space has established itself as an arts organisation with whom direct, critical engagement with contemporary studio and gallery-based practice is key.

As a registered Charity Art Space Portsmouth is managed by a Board of Trustees made up from both industry professionals and artist-members.

As a provider of low-cost artist studios, exhibition space and through a wider network of off-site artist members Art Space Portsmouth represents a dynamic and diverse community of artists.

Role and Responsibilities

This is not an exhaustive list of duties but gives an outline of the role and responsibilities of this position.

Key Areas of responsibility:

  • Management of operational and office functions, ensuring the smooth and efficient running of Art Space Portsmouth.
  • Building management, overseeing the maintenance and health and safety at Art Space Portsmouth’s premises at 27 Brougham Road, Southsea, Portsmouth PO5 4PA.
  • Internal financial management, including liaison with external services including, the payroll officer, bookkeeper and accountant.
  • Supporting the Board of Trustees in the implementation of the aims, objectives, policies of Art Space Portsmouth
  • Management of information and communication.
  • Manage own workload effectively.
  • Key holder for alarm.

Skills and Attributes

  • Able to work on own initiative and manage own time.
  • Good planning and organising skills with the ability to deal with detail.
  • Proven track record of delivering customer service and strong administration skills.
  • Good communication skills through e-mail, phone and in person.
  • Confident.
  • Good Time Keeping and Diary Management.

Time requirement

The contract will be for 10 – 14 hours a week. The hours can be worked flexibly, but some regular office hours will be necessary. Board meetings are held in the evening and occur four times a year with one annual strategy away day.

Remuneration

£15 per hour
