Studio One

Studio One is our rolling artist opportunity to rent a studio at Art Space Portsmouth for short periods of between two to four months, depending on needs.

Our next open call is now open for applications for May 2024 onwards.

This is a fantastic opportunity for artists wanting a studio space to start or complete a project; to test ideas and develop new work; or see if having a dedicated space would help your practice, without the worry of a making a big commitment.

The opportunity to have an exhibition in our gallery at the end of the residency

The recipiant from May 2024 will have the added bonus of taking part in our annual Open Studios weekend 29th & 30th June, therefore must have the residency for three or four months.

Daniel Gent has been our Studio One resident artist since January 2024.

“My residency at Art Space has allowed me to develop my sculpture practice, further experimenting with new materials and how this may inform future, larger works. It has also enabled me to connect with other artists in the area, learning about their practices and being able to see at close hand how they prepare for exhibitions.”

Deadline for applications: Midnight Thursday 4th April 2024

This new application round will select a number of recipients for the rest of 2024 and into 2025. So if you can’t start in May don’t worry, if successful you will be scheduled in for later in the programme. This opportunity is open to artists at all stages of their career, and we are dedicated to helping emerging artists get a step on the ladder.
